Hi, Families!
We are working hard this week on writing assessments for narrative writing and on both the Reading and Math MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests. You’ll receive those results in the future, sent home by the district. We are approaching the end of the year, but we are not slowing down anytime soon with academics. We still have so much left to do! Off-task behaviors are really ramping up across the board, and some students are really getting wild and disruptive. Please talk to your child about needing to show STAR behavior throughout the remainder of the school year: following directions quickly, working during work time, saving loud and crazy for outside at recess, and showing kindness and respect for all students and adults. It can’t hurt to have reminders at home. Reminders/Notes for you:

Many of you had a chance to travel over Spring Break, and it's been great to see your vacation photos! I'm happy to share significant photos from your child's life (pet, sports, performance, etc.); feel free to send them to me, and your child can share during morning meeting. This past month, we have been enjoying our school-wide March Book Madness read alouds! We have been reading each book and are voting for our favorites! Our brackets have narrowed down to the final two: The Day the Crayons Quit and Finding Winnie! We’ll be having a whole school assembly tomorrow to find out the winner and have some March Madness fun! Progress reports are available in Parent Vue as of 10:00 am today, Monday. Please take some time to view your child's report. To be able to view comments, please click on print AS IF you were going to print the report (don't actually have to), and that will let you see the section with comments. I do my best to accurately mark each report, but if you notice something that doesn't make sense or doesn't seem to fit your child, please let me know, as I could have made a mistake while digitally entering everything. Also, if you have any questions about your child's progress or report, please contact me any time! Reminders/Notes for you:

~Liz Hi, Families!
We have had an exciting few weeks here in Room 156! We’ve had some snow to play in at recess, which is always exciting, are working towards reading 1 million minutes as a school community, celebrated the 100th Day of school (thank you for sending in snacks for making a snack of 100 items), had a valentine’s party (thank you for sending in valentines and party treats!), participated in Jump Rope for Heart, visited the STAR cart for prizes with earned STAR tickets, and have been reading books leading up to March for March Book Madness! Next week, we will be going to see some scenes from the Wizard of Oz show at Mount Nittany Middle School. Whew! If your student comes home tired, it’s because our days are absolutely full! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! Have a great weekend! ~Liz Dear Families,
It’s actually nice to see a bit of snow – but, for me, now it can go! I hope you all had enjoyable winter breaks. We will be doing MAP testing this week in second grade; there is nothing to do but make sure the Chromebooks are charged and that your child gets a good night’s sleep. Reminders/Notes for you:

I hope that you all have been able to find time to spend with family and friends during this season of thanksgiving. I am grateful for all the blessings in my life, and that certainly includes our wonderful school community and all of my students! I'm very thankful for all of my/your little turkeys! Hi, Families!
We've had a great time in second grade the last couple of weeks! The spirit week and Hawk Hop were a blast! Thank you all for your participation and for helping the PTO surpass its goal of $20,000! Add onto that our Harvest Parade and party -- whew! -- what a wild end to October! Thank you to all of you who met for a parent conference. It was nice to be able to sit down with you and share your child's progress. A few weeks ago, to additionally recognize students who are consistently following STAR behavior and classroom expectations, I started a new incentive in the classroom called "Desk Pets." Students are earning "desk pets," which are animal erasers, to keep in a "home" on their desk. After earning a pet, students can earn "accessories," which are other smaller erasers or gems, to go with their pet in their home. The students seem really excited about them! Ask your student if they've earned a desk pet and accessories (and how many!) yet! Reminders/Notes for you:

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! Have a great week! ~Liz We've had a great couple weeks of learning! Students did a great job powering through the rigorous MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests. Those scores should be coming home to you soon; the district usually sends a paper copy. Last year in first grade, students only took the Math test in January and May. In second grade, they take both the Reading and Math in September, January, and May. Keep in mind that the test they take this year is a different test, so it's hard to compare their scores to those last year. Last year the Math MAP was the K-2 test; this year, they take the 2-5 test. Once you receive scores, let me know if you have any questions.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! Have a great week! ~Liz Welcome to 2nd grade! We have had a great start to school. We are working on getting to know one another and building our class community. We are all starting to really know the routines, and they are beginning to be second nature. That helps things run much more efficiently!
In general, the class does need to work on showing self-control and following directions.A huge part of my job is making sure that every student has a positive, calm, and respectful space to learn. I have high expectations and provide support for all students to be able to show STAR school behavior. Please have those conversations with your students at home. Thank you! Reminders/Notes for you:
